ANTIGUA, GUATEMALA

1 week/ $2,300

Located at the south of Mexico, Guatemala is also considered as the largest country in Central America. Guatemala is infamous for its beautiful volcanoes, rainforests, and ancient Mayan sites. Its climate is tropical, including the fact there is only two seasons existing in the country, which is the winter, or rainy season, that occurs during May up until October, and the summer season that is between November and April. The population of Guatemala as of July 2017 is estimated to be 15, 460, 732. One US dollar is worth of 7.71 Guatemalan quetzal, as of October 2018. Our firm, HOPE selected this country to provide our services on.

Guatemala consists of countless tourist attractions. Our firm focuses on areas such as  Guatemala City, Antigua, Ciudad Vieja, and San Martin Jilotepeque. All volunteers will have a stopover at Antigua, and there they will have a day or two to walk around the area. Over there, the volunteers would be riding a zipline, visiting attractions, and have a tour to coffee plantations, which is what the country is prominent for.  They will also be visiting Museo del Libro Antiguo, which exhibits historical experiences that the country had. Some volunteers are going to Lake Atitlan as their day off, wherein they can go kayaking or visit natural wonders within the lake area. Others can be going to the Choco Museo and cathedrals. These attractions would vary depending on which certain dates that volunteers would decide on, as they will receive different itineraries.

HOPE would give aid to these cities by teaching children and increasing English literacy and reconstructing broken homes in certain places. Volunteers will be assigned to specific clinics for a couple of days. Our firm is collaborating with organizations such as Hogar Heroes, World Food Program, SOS Children Villages, ActionAid, God’s Child Project, and Helps International. These organizations provide programs that would allow us to help out orphans and other children in need within the area. Moreover, Helps International is a nonprofit organization in Guatemala that would give us access to materials that would help us contribute to the economic development of the city.
